Description

The Formation Director is a professional leader who assists adults, adolescents, and children of the parish in growing in a knowledge of and desire for Jesus Christ and His Holy Catholic Church and Her teachings. The primary responsibility of the Director of Formation is to administer (design, develop, direct, communicate and evaluate) the formation initiatives and programs of St. Patrick Catholic Church.  This position provides leadership, direction, and support for the Formation Coordinators to result in effective evangelization and discipling of children, youth and adults through preschool, family, youth, and adult programming.

Essential Functions of the Position:

  • As a practicing Roman Catholic, help to shape a vibrant, active Catholic community by living the faith dynamically, pursuing daily prayer, participating in the community’s sacramental life, and serving others with an openness to the movement of the Holy Spirit.
  • Establish vision, goals, objectives, and strategies for discipling children, youth and adults.
  • Obtain approval and support from the pastor for the general direction of the religious formation of the parish.
  • Advise and guide Formation Coordinator responsible for the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd program for preschool children, elementary sacraments program and Grace Abounds for children and youth who have need of receiving sacraments not received at age-appropriate time (OCIA for children and youth).
  • Advise and guide Formation Coordinator responsible for middle school, high school and Confirmation programs as well as assisting with family discipleship programming.
  • Develop, guide, and present family discipleship programming for families with children grades kindergarten through fifth grade.
  • Ensure that the Safe Environment requirements, policies, and mandates for Parish staff and volunteers are compliant with the guidelines outlined by the Office for Child and Youth Protection.
  • Oversee the coordination and provide administrative support for sacramental preparation of adults according to the Order of Christian Initiation.
  • Research, select, develop, and evaluate appropriate curricula for formation programs.
  • Identify, develop, and implement practices to recruit youth and adult volunteers to participate in facilitating the various formation programs.
  • Provide encouragement, training and support to volunteer personnel who assist in the programs administered through the formation department.
  • Create, develop and facilitate fundraising opportunities to assist families and youth with Catholic camps and conferences.
  • Oversee planning, registration and marketing of Catholic camps and conferences to provide leadership, support, training, and adherence to policies for offsite events.
  • Recruit, hire, orient and provide ongoing training and spiritual development for formation department personnel.
  • Develop and implement policies and guidelines for formation programming.
  • Prepare and monitor formation department budget, following budgetary procedures established by parish business administrator and pastor.
  • Supervise formation office and practices.
  • Oversee advisory committee for formation
  • Create promotional materials for formation activities for bulletin, eblast, smart board and website.
  • Serve as Country Fest Liaison for areas assigned. This include assisting the chairperson(s) prior, during and after the event.  Due to this responsibility, all hours worked onsite during CountryFest on Saturday and Sunday will be comp time, taken within one week of the event.

Qualifications

  • A missionary disciple with the resolve, enthusiasm, and confidence to develop a culture of evangelization and discipleship.
  • Able to interact well with and provide leadership for adults and youth, small and large groups.
  • Ability to vision, plan and execute events that provide on-going discipleship opportunities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to present enthusiastic and dynamic interactions.
  • Ability to plan and organize to meet deadlines.
  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of specialized education is helpful but not required.

Job Requirements (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):

 Exhibit strong knowledge of the Catholic faith and a willingness to always learn more.

  • Active and participating Roman Catholic in adherence with Church teaching on faith, morals, and laws.
  • Enthusiasm, energy, and willingness to actively engage in conversations, presentations and teaching opportunities which are foundational to a relational ministry model.
  • Flexibility in working day and evening hours; weekend work is also required. Camps and conferences will include overnights as well.
  • Ability to move between tasks to manage multiple projects effectively.
  • Must be proficient in computer programs (Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.).
  • Compliance with background check and VIRTUS requirements.

 

Application Instructions

This position offers a salary starting at $60,000, with potential for higher compensation based on qualifications.  A comprehensive benefits package is included, featuring medical and dental insurance, a 403(b)-retirement plan, paid time off, and a range of elective benefits selected by employee.
