Job Title: Director of Faith Formation
Reports to and Receives Work Direction from: Pastor
Direct Reports: Confirmation Coordinator, Volunteer Catechists
FLSA: Exempt
This position is: Full-time salaried, average 30 hrs/wk
Schedule: The main office schedule is Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 9:00am to 4:00pm, and Wednesdays 11:30am to 8:00pm during the program year (September through May). The Director is also expected to arrange and attend Faith Formation events that occur in the evenings or on weekends. Some flexibility exists to modify this schedule.
Position Summary:
St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church helps to make Jesus Christ known and loved in North Branch, MN and the surrounding area. We aim to do this by cultivating a lifelong love of Christ through our successful youth Faith Formation and Adult Faith Formation programs. The Director of Faith Formation will aid in this mission by designing, implementing, and directing a total parish program and will provide leadership to assist the parish community in building a solid foundation and comprehensive strategy for catechesis and evangelization.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Total of 30 hrs/wk
The selected candidate will work with and under the direction of St. Gregory’s Pastor to direct the overall vision for catechesis and evangelization within the parish. The main objective of this position is to shepherd adults, children, and families throughout the process of evangelization so that the church is creating missionary disciples of Christ.
The ideal candidate will also have a proven desire for personal and professional growth through research, classes, workshops, retreats, reading and contact with peers.
All paid staff will do their best to uphold the Pastor’s vision for the parish. All paid staff will be completely loyal to the Pastor.
Youth Faith Formation – Kids In Christ (KIC): 24 hrs/wk
The KIC program goes from Pre-K to 8th grade. In collaboration with the pastor, this person provides primary leadership for the design and implementation of the KIC program, including planning and directing Sacramental Preparation. They will help shape, formulate, and direct programming that enables lifelong growth in the Catholic faith.
With the assistance of a part-time dedicated office assistant, this person will:
- Administer parish Faith Formation youth program (Kids In Christ, “KIC”) as well as the Pre-K and Kindergarten Sunday School program on a day-to-day basis and in long-term strategic planning
- Select curriculum, textbooks, and resources for the programs
- Articulate and implement a clear vision and mission for parents, youth, staff, and parishioners
- Facilitate parents in using the family-based curriculum to prepare for Sacraments of Reconciliation and First Communion
- Plan and direct Sacramental Preparation and Coordinate First Sacrament workshops and celebrations
- Oversee annual registration for KIC program
- Coordinate annual schedule for classes and events
- Recruit, oversee, and monitor catechists
- Provide one or two yearly trainings for catechists
- Maintain proper budget for the KIC program
Support for Confirmation and Adult Faith Formation: 6 hrs/wk
With the assistance of a part-time dedicated office assistant and a part-time Confirmation coordinator, this person will:
- Plan the Confirmation formation classes (2 per month on Sunday evening)
- Create the yearly schedule for the Confirmation program
- Meet with and communicate to parents and/or guardians all pertinent information regarding the curriculum and guidelines of the Confirmation program
- Organize and attend events (as needed) in the Confirmation program
- Plan the yearly Confirmation Retreat for the 2nd-year students
- Delegate office tasks to Faith Formation Administrative Assistant
- Coordinate Adult Faith Formation, including Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA)
Qualifications
Preferred Qualification:
- Degree in Theology or Catholic Studies, or a Certificate from the Catechetical Institute
Required Qualifications:
- Practicing Roman Catholic with a deep and growing personal relationship with Jesus and has a clear awareness of their Catholic identity.
- A person of prayer whose lifestyle bears witness to the message of the Gospel and who feels called to serve the Church in the mission of evangelization
- Available for weekly Faith Formation classes, evening meetings, and occasional weekend workshops
- An equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions
- Ability to honor and maintain a high level of confidentiality
- Motivated self-starter who displays initiative and self-management skills to effectively manage multiple tasks
- Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with adults, parents, staff, and youth
- Able to work and maintain positive relationships with co-workers
