Description

Missed the Boat Theatre is seeking an enthusiastic individual with a passion for our mission to fill a new role supporting fundraising initiatives and administrative tasks.

Missed the Boat Theatre is a nonprofit community theater where Catholics can come together to make beautiful works on the stage for the glory of God. We are looking for candidates for this position who will live and champion our core values of Catholicity, quality, and community.

The Basics

  • Position Type: Part-time, hourly contractor.

  • Pay: $18-$23 / hour, depending on experience

  • Time Commitment: 15-20 hours per week. Hours will fluctuate around the season schedule, with particular uptick in preparation for our February Cabaret and major fundraising campaigns

  • Work Terms: Primarily flexible, remote work with hours determined by Contractor in communication with Executive Director and Director of Mission. Must be able to schedule phone calls or in-person meetings with potential donors on a regular basis.

  • Position is open until filled.

Responsibilities

Development:

  • In collaboration with Director of Mission, provide feedback on and implement strategies for ongoing relationship-building with audience members

  • Provide support to the Director of Mission in creating and executing a strategic and comprehensive fundraising plan for the organization

  • Seek out, create, and cultivate relationships with prospective individual and institutional donors, including written communications, making phone calls, attending meetings, and representing Missed the Boat at community events

  • Maintain a database of donors and prospects as well their current relationship to the organization

  • Facilitate fundraising meetings and provide briefings for said meetings to Board members, staff, and volunteers

  • Develop and implement fundraising initiatives and events such as annual appeals, monthly donor initiatives, etc.

  • Oversee and manage donor perks programs for individual donors and corporate sponsors

  • Collaborate with Director of Mission to set goals for various fundraising campaigns / initiatives, track progress towards those goals, and ensure advancement towards goal timelines

  • Recruit, train, and provide supervision and support to fundraising volunteers for phone calls, letter-writing campaigns, special events, etc.

  • Ensure prompt and ongoing communication with donors, including thank you notes, tax letters, and responses to inquires or questions

  • In anticipation of all events and shows, provide an audience list and briefing on major donors to Board / staff and assign donor cultivation responsibilities

Operations:

  • Provide support to the Executive Director in managing organizational budgets, including accounting records of income/expenses, providing reimbursements and payments to contracts and vendors, etc.

  • Provide operational and communication support to volunteer leaders, board members, and other staff

  • Manage company’s physical assets, including storage unit, printers, keys, etc.

  • Manage company’s digital assets such as Google Workspace and other online platform accounts and subscriptions, etc.

  • As a member of MTBT’s management team and small staff, contribute to overall organizational strategy, policy, operations, and organizational culture

  • Other administrative duties as assigned, within scope

Qualifications

  • Passion for MTBT’s mission: A love for live theater and a desire to use it to glorify God and create authentic Catholic community

  • Relevant education, work, or volunteer experience that would apply to this position (this may include any combination of the following: fundraising, sales, non-profit management, and/or communication, in theater / arts and culture organizations, nonprofits, or church settings)

  • Fundraising or sales experience: progressive professional experience in fundraising or “selling” a mission

  • Relationship building: An ability to create rapport and build positive relationships with anyone, including organizational and industry colleagues, artists, institutional funders, and high-net-worth individuals

  • Project management: The ability to see a strategy through from idea to planning to execution with attention to detail

  • Organization and time management: the ability to create and meet a schedule and enforce appropriate deadlines along the way to that schedule

  • Ability to work well both independently and on a team
