Description

To foster an awareness of Christ’s presence in the lives of parish children and youth by coordinating Sacramental Preparation and Faith Formation Programs for grades Kindergarten through Grade 5. Empower, support, and utilize volunteer members of the community to minister and serve one another. This position will also be responsible for Reconciliation & Eucharist preparation and celebration. In addition, this position will also be responsible for Vacation Bible School (Summer) beginning in 2025.

The coordinator is a developer of ministry skills and a resource for catechists, parents and other adults, children, and youth.

*SPECIFIC AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Continue and maintain catechetical programs/processes for the following groups:

Finding God (grades K-5) and at home Gospel Weeklies (grades K-5) and coordinate intergenerational events for families and other members of the community throughout the year. Curriculum must be in keeping with the guidelines of the Archdiocese.

  • Oversee and direct team leaders in the above-mentioned programs.
  • Plan and coordinate programs for 1st Eucharist, 1st Reconciliation and work with the Director of Music and Liturgy to plan 1st Eucharist and Reconciliation services.
  • Plan and coordinate Vacation Bible School beginning in 2025.
  • Review, select, and acquire suitable materials for these programs in conjunction with the Pastor.
  • Recruit sufficient volunteer adults and teens to conduct the parish’s catechetical programs.
  • Provide in-service training, either directly or through the Archdiocese, to volunteers in basic theology, the methods of catechesis, and in the use of materials to be employed in their teaching.
  • Prepare the annual budget with the Finance Manager and oversee expenditures after its approval by the Finance Council.
  • Attend the monthly Ministry Council meeting and serve as staff representative on the Life Stages Spirituality Council.
  • Under the guidance of the Archdiocese, and in coordination with the Safe Environment Coordinator, keep volunteers and students current on all OPCY requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Catholic Studies, Education, or Theology.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Completion and passing of a Criminal Background Check.
  • Demonstrated skills and interests in this type of work.
  • Three years or more experience in the field of Faith Formation.
  • Post Vatican II / Pope Francis understanding of Church.
  • Skills for working with young children, adults, and families.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Skilled in computer programs / software and technology management/ social media.
  • Desire and ability to work with a team.
  • Leadership, team building and recruitment
  • Competence in age-appropriate instructional methods and knowledge of subject matter being taught.
  • Ability to work well with others and maintain a collegial atmosphere.

  • Ability to work under pressure and with constant interruptions.

  • Fulfill total commitments of the faith formation program and other activities of the ministry year.
  • Able to work evenings or weekends when necessary; must regularly work Wednesday evenings.
  • Outdoor/indoor supervision of groups of students.
  • Lift and move using proper techniques up to 15 pounds.
  • Able to operate keyboard in a safe and proficient manner.
