Department: Parish Ministries 

Supervisor: Managing Director of Ministries 

Status: Full Time, Exempt 

Hours/ Schedule: 40 hrs/ week, 12 mos. per year 

Typical Schedule: Primary hours include Saturday and Sunday, Holy Days and some holidays, funerals, weddings, baptisms, occasional weeknights.  

 

PURPOSE OF POSITION 

Supports the vision, mission, and values of The Basilica of Saint Mary by assisting the Managing Director of Ministries with the preparation of adults for the reception of the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist and Holy Matrimony. In addition, this position supports the director and associate director of liturgy with the celebration of these sacraments and other liturgical celebrations at The Basilica of Saint Mary. Implementation of all liturgical celebrations at The Basilica of Saint Mary including, but not limited to, weekend and Holy Day Liturgies, weddings, funeral, confirmations, interfaith and other worship services, as well as the administration and management of volunteers. 

 

SCOPE OF POSITION 

  • This position reports to the Managing Director of Ministries/Director of Liturgy. 
  • This position closely collaborates with the Associate Director of Liturgy. 
  • This position works with different volunteer teams, including the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults team, Marriage Mentor Couples, as well as different liturgical ministry teams. 

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS AND MAJOR ACTIVITIES 

  • Oversee and support the implementation of the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA). 
  • Oversee and support sacramental preparation of couples who are planning to celebrate the Sacrament of Marriage in accordance with Archdiocesan guidelines. 
  • Help facilitate efficient and effective liturgical celebrations at The Basilica of Saint Mary. 
  • Assist the Associate Director of Liturgical Celebrations with the liturgical environment. 
  • Manage volunteers.   
  • Fulfill other duties as needed or assigned by the Managing Director of Ministries/Director of Liturgy 

 

OTHER RESPONSIBILITES / REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Assist with public relations efforts  
  • Attend pertinent staff meetings 
  • Complete Archdiocesan HR requirements 
  • Be ready to work and complete all assigned responsibilities.

Compensation and Benefits 

The salary range for this position is $49,000 - $54,000 annually. Designation of Essential Functions 

Employment in and by the Church is substantially different from secular employment.  Church employees/volunteers must conduct themselves in a manner which is consistent with and supportive of the mission and purpose of the Church. This position does require that the employee be a Catholic. As a parish community rooted in the teachings of the Catholic Church, employees/volunteers are expected to be knowledgeable of core tenets and respectful of the mission, purpose, and teachings of the Catholic faith. 

Qualifications

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 

  • Practicing Roman Catholic with knowledge and appreciation of the Catholic faith and traditions, especially of sacramental preparation and celebrations.  
  • Bachelor’s degree in theology/liturgy required or commensurate experience. 
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; proficiency in Spanish is welcomed. 
  • Ability to take direction, utilize good time management, and multi-task in a collaborative environment. 
  • Experience with project management, communications, event planning/execution helpful.  
  • Strong experience in volunteer management and engagement required. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to initiate and develop open, respectful, positive, and cooperative relationships. 
  • Strong computer skills.  Experience with Microsoft Office software and ability to learn the Basilica’s database software, Raiser’s Edge 7, and administrative skills.  

 

Physical Demands 

  • Must be able to lift at least 40 pounds and be able to climb stairs and ladders. 
  • Repetitive keyboarding.  
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.  

 

Mental Demands 

  • Ability to adapt and make appropriate decisions quickly. 
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision. 
  • Strong oral and written communication. 
  • Attention to pastoral concerns that need to be shared with the pastor and pastoral care coordinator. 
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality 
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, workloads, and workflow.
