Description
The Communications Manager for St. Michael Catholic Church and School is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive and cohesive communication strategy to promote the church’s mission, engage the parish and school community, and foster connections with the broader public. This role requires a creative, organized, and faith-driven individual who can effectively convey the church’s values and activities through various channels while aligning with Catholic teachings and tradition.
General Responsibilities include:
- Content Creation and Management: Develop, write, and edit engaging content for the church’s website, weekly bulletin, newsletters, social media platforms, and other communication channels, ensuring alignment with Catholic values and the church’s mission.
- Digital Presence: Manage and update the church and school’s website and social media accounts (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, Twitter/X) to share events, homilies, and inspirational messages, while maintaining a consistent and professional brand voice.
- Public Relations: Serve as the primary contact for media inquiries, draft press releases, and build relationships with local media to promote church events and initiatives
- Internal Communications: Coordinate communications to parishioners and school families, including announcements, event promotions, and updates about parish activities, ensuring clear and timely information sharing.
- Event Promotion: Create and execute marketing plans for parish events, such as Masses, sacramental celebrations, fundraisers, and community service initiatives, to maximize participation and engagement.
- Graphic Design and Multimedia: Produce visually appealing materials, such as flyers, posters, and digital graphics, and oversee the creation of multimedia content, including videos and podcasts, to enhance communication efforts.
- Volunteer Coordination: Recruit and manage a team of volunteers to assist with communication tasks, such as photography, videography, or social media content creation.
- Crisis Communication: Develop and implement strategies for managing communications during sensitive situations, ensuring transparency, compassion, and alignment with church leadership.
- Analytics and Reporting: Monitor and analyze the performance of communication efforts (e.g., website traffic, social media engagement) and provide regular reports to church leadership with recommendations for improvement.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations, or a related field. Formal study or training in theology or Catholic studies preferred.
- Experience: At least 3-5 years of experience in communications, marketing, or a related role, preferably in a nonprofit or faith-based organization.
- Faith Commitment: Active, practicing Catholic with a strong understanding of Catholic teachings, traditions, and values, and a commitment to the mission of the Catholic Church.
- Skills:
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft clear, compelling, and faith-centered messages.
- Proficiency in digital tools, including content management systems (e.g., WordPress), social media platforms, and graphic design software (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite).
- Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Experience with media relations and crisis communication.
- Familiarity with copyright and digital content licensing requirements.
- Video, photo, and audio shooting and editing and multimedia production is a plus.
