Description

Visitation School is seeking an Afternoon Security Guard and Maintenance Assistant.  This is part-time, approx. .63 FTE, school year, benefits eligible role.  Hours are 2:30 pm – 9:30 pm, with possible variable end of shift hours (based on building activity).

This role is responsible for the overall security/maintenance of campus buildings and grounds during the late afternoon and evening hours when school is in session.  This position will oversee student pick up and direct traffic during the end of school day; monitor students, faculty, staff and guests during after school events; help provide a safe and secure environment; and will promote positive relations with constituents by serving as an ambassador of the school.  Additionally, this role is also responsible for performing general maintenance tasks and basic repairs, responding to facilities-related requests, and assisting with event setup and takedown during the late afternoon and evening hours.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Overall security and maintenance of campus buildings and grounds during the late afternoon and evening hours.
  • Oversee student pick up and direct traffic during the end of the school day.
  • Monitor students, faculty, staff and guests during after school events.

 Security (50% of time)

  • Supervise the Commons area by following guidelines set by the division directors and dean of student life.
  • Ensure that all students from each division are in the appropriate area of the school.
  • Establish a positive rapport with students who are engaged in afterschool activities.
  • Hold students accountable for the orderliness of the commons/Heart area and intervene when students are not acting appropriately. Report any significant incidents to the appropriate supervisor and fill out an incident report if needed.
  • Verify students waiting for rides remain safe prior to being picked up.
  • Verify that visitors are present at Visitation School for legitimate purposes and at appropriate times and locations only.
  • Assist visitors to find their destination.
  • Assist in monitoring the Fine Arts foyer and Athletic foyer to preserve order.
  • Control access to the school after 3:30 p.m. including limiting access to school commons/Heart entrance for students and parents.
  • Respond to emergencies as needed.
  • Secure all doors and windows after the events are over and all people have left the building.
  • Patrol buildings and grounds periodically and use monitoring and communication equipment to ensure all in the building are safe and secure.
  • Maintain awareness of events scheduled on campus using the building usage report.
  • Meet and greet visitors in a positive and helpful manner and require them to sign in.
  • Assist in determining security policies, procedures and practices to ensure compliance with all regulations.

  Maintenance (40% of the time)

  • Oversee the general appearance of the School and requests of the night cleaning staff.
  • Assist in event setup/teardown (tables, chairs, signage, etc.).
  • Perform light maintenance including basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and HVAC tasks.
  • Conduct routine inspections of facilities to identify and address maintenance needs.
  • Respond promptly to work orders and requests from faculty/staff.
  • Perform snow removal of sidewalks and entrances/exits for after school events.

 Parking Lot (10% of time)

  • Direct the traffic flow to ensure buses can get in and out of the school parking lot without delay.
  • Assist students in boarding.
  • Oversee bus departure times.
  • Encourage drivers and pedestrians to be careful by instructing students to exercise safe habits.
  • Report speeding infractions and reckless driving to the appropriate administrator at Visitation School.

Manage miscellaneous projects and complete various tasks as needed by management.

Our ideal candidate will have knowledge of local and national security processes and standards for schools.  Excellent interpersonal skills are a must.  This candidate will display the highest level of professionalism, initiative, can-do willingness, and ownership approach to work.  They will have established skills exercising good judgment with an ability to react quickly and decisively in emergency situations.  Working knowledge of a variety of security equipment (e.g. two-way radio, security monitors, and other security equipment) and the ability to operate computer software programs including camera system, Google Suite, door programming software, email, calendar, and shared documents are necessary skills.
