About the Church of Saint Paul
The Church of Saint Paul is a dynamic Catholic community of 1400+ families empowered by the Holy Spirit to be the Body of Christ alive in our world today. Located in Ham Lake, MN, the parish follows a five-step discipleship pathway to maintain the strength of our community and help individuals become intentional disciples of Jesus Christ through acts of prayer, service, connection, giving, and invitation.
Position Summary
The Adult Sacraments and Pastoral Care Coordinator is a compassionate organized leader who encourages and develops parishioners to take on leadership roles in sacramental preparation and pastoral ministry. You will help people take their next steps in the Sacramental life of the Church (OCIA, engagement, marriage, baptism), create a caring atmosphere for families and individuals going through a time of difficulty or bereavement (funerals), as well as support various prayer ministries. Schedule to be determined. Weekend and evening hours required (e.g. Sacramental rites, special events, and member engagement).
Qualifications
Primary Responsibilities
- Recruit, organize, and train lay leaders to provide sacramental training and pastoral care for the parish.
- Provide Sacramental preparation (OCIA, Engagement, Marriage, Baptism) and a welcoming experience for individuals, couples, and families from their first inquiry to the completion of their sacramental journey.
- Provide pastoral support for grieving families including funeral planning (in collaboration with the Director of Liturgy and Music) and coordinate the Eternal Life Ministry and clergy.
- Provide guidance and direction to Prayer Ministries (e.g. Spiritual Direction, Prayer Line, Prayer Teams, Eucharistic Adoration) and Pastoral Care Ministries (e.g. Divorce and Annulment, Addiction, Grief, Seniors, Bread of Life, Meal Train, Food Drives, and more).
- Respond to requests from parishioners and non-parishioners for financial assistance and connect them to resources equipped to meet their needs.
- Be present frequently at weekend Masses and at significant parish events in an effort to know and be known by parishioners.
Qualifications and Required Competencies
- Practicing Roman Catholic who desires to make Jesus known and loved.
- Bachelor’s degree or four plus years of relevant experience.
- Knowledge and passion for developing and refining systems and ministry teams.
- Proficient computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office, G Suite, ParishSOFT, MSP, VSP).
- Must have flexible work hours to accommodate irregular work schedules.
- Must be Essential 3 compliant on first day of employment as required by Archdiocese.
Skills and Preferences
- Capacity to manage volunteers effectively and work in collaboration with parish leadership, staff members, and outside organizations.
- Ability to actively listen, employ strong empathy skills, and successfully navigate complex interpersonal situations while creating an atmosphere of trust.
- Capable of holding information in confidence.
- Administrative skills to document all program and formation information with an ability to implement and maintain multiple projects and tasks.
- Demonstrated professional maturity.
- Be an encouraging team player and leader.
Physical Demands
- Able to work 40 or more hours per week (including weekends, Holy Days, and special events).
- Able to sit or stand for extended periods of time (3+ hours).
- Able to lift at least 40 pounds (materials, supplies, etc.) using proper techniques.
