Description
Under the supervision of the principal, the pre-k through 8th grade Music teacher is responsible for teaching Music to students by planning and conducting an education program that develops music appreciation and the ability to respond and perform while maintaining a Catholic identity through musical instruction. Additionally, the Music teacher helps students grow in their enjoyment and exposure of music through a variety of performances including weekly Masses, as well as Advent and Spring programs and special event performances (religious as well as non-religious).
Qualifications
Candidate should have a joyful as well as a traditional/classical philosophy of teaching music in a Catholic school. Some formal note reading system should be introduced (solfege and standard notation), inspirational incorporation of rhythm techniques, as well as an understand of both Kodaly and Orff techniques. Sacred music (including Latin Mass parts and a familiarity with the Novus Ordo) needs to be a major emphasis. Secular music consistent with the challenge and beauty of the world’s finest is welcome. Singing in parts is expected to be a consistent part of performances by 4th grade and higher. Performance is a focal point and goal of most music instruction with knowledge of technique that is followed closely by an appreciation for musical nuances.
Position is 2/3 FTE with an opportunity for further duties within the school to reach full-time status.
