Position Summary:

The Evangelization Retreat Coordinator will work to build Retreat Teams serving bilingual parishes around the Archdiocese, which are able plan and execute three-day “Evangelization Retreats.” These retreats have the new members of our parishes and Cell groups in mind and will facilitate a powerful encounter with the Lord so that every participant leaves knowing that Christ is alive and loves them. They will return to their parishes amazed by the Divine Mercy and filled with the Holy Spirit, eager to put the gifts of their Baptism at the service of their pastors and their sisters and brothers.

Additionally, the Retreat Coordinator will collaborate with local retreat centers and religious communities to provide opportunities for silent retreats (preferably three days) for our Spanish speaking faithful who are already evangelized, especially the lay ministers who need to rest from their labors and to be led into the deep waters of prayer for refreshment in Spirit and encouragement in their ministries.

Essential Functions of the Position:

A. Evangelization Retreats (for newly invited members of our parishes and cell groups):

* Work to form an Evangelization Retreat Commission for the Office of Latino Ministry of the Archdiocese. (The Evangelization Retreat Coordinator will de fact be the chair of the commission. The Director of the Office of Latino Ministries and the Vicar for Latinos will be ex officio members of the Commission. The Chair of the Evangelizing Cell Commission (Executive Cell) will be an ex officio member of the Commission

* Begin by establishing 4 (two women’s / two men’s) retreats in each the Fall and Spring Semesters of the Faith Formation Calendar Year

* Work to support each bilingual parish or cluster of parishes develop a retreat team that can offer three-day retreats for the newly evangelized parishioners.

* Form presenters and leaders with experience and testimony.

* Plan calendar and Evangelization Retreat schedules each year that respond to the spiritual needs of the parishes and especially the participants of Evangelization Cell groups.

* Publish the events of the Evangelization retreats for the benefit of all the bilingual communities.

* Provide initial and ongoing training and formation for Evangelization Retreat leaders.

* In collaboration with colleagues from Latino Ministry, evaluate and shape the Retreat program.

* Coordinate preparation meetings with the leaders of the Retreats.

* Coordinate the administrative aspects of the Retreat Program.

* Book and serve as contact person for all facilities where all retreats are held.

* Manage the budget of the retreat program.

* Coordinate the details of each retreat, including transportation, maintaining accurate lists of participants and fee payments, follow-up evaluation, reports, etc.

* Evaluate program effectiveness on a regular basis.

* Builds partnerships with Latino Parishes in the community.

B. Silent Retreats (for those already evangelized and especially the lay ministers of our parishes):

* Three-day retreats in silence according to the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius or other effective method to aid deep prayer.

* Collaborate with retreat centers and religious orders to provide and host these retreats where possible.

C. Miscellaneous Retreats

* After the establishment of regular Evangelization and Silent retreats see where needs might be to have Days of Recollection.

* Days of Recollection during Lent and Advent for specific groups of ministers.

Qualifications

Job Requirements (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):

* Excellent communication skills both verbal and written (English/Spanish);

* Knowledge and understanding of the Roman Catholic Church, its structure and the ministries within the Offices of the Catholic Center.

* Ability to exercise discretion, good judgment, and initiative.

* Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office.

* Ability to prioritize, multi-task and meet deadlines with minimal supervision, especially with multi-tasking various programs.

* Diplomatic, tactful, and discreet, especially when dealing with confidential matters.

* Ability to work in collaboration with others.

* Strong interpersonal skills.

 

Job Qualifications: (Education and Experience):

Education:

* B.A. or Certificate Lay Ecclesial Ministry.

* Must be bilingual (English/Spanish) – Bicultural.

Experience:

* Minimum of one-two years of experience in an administrative and pastoral position

* Previous experience coordinating/scheduling courses, seminars, or workshops.

 

Physical Requirements:

* Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

* Must be able to lift to 15 pounds at times.
