Description

Visitation School is seeking a full-time Human Resources Manager who will work in close collaboration with the Chief Financial Officer to oversee human resources functions. This position serves as both a strategic and hands-on HR partner, supporting the full employee lifecycle while upholding and advancing the school’s mission and values.

Key responsibilities include recruiting and onboarding faculty and staff, administering payroll and benefits programs, managing compensation, supporting employee relations and performance management, and ensuring compliance with employment laws, regulations, and school policies. This role is essential in fostering a positive, compliant, and productive workplace culture.

  • Partner with the CFO to develop and enhance HR policies, procedures, programs, and metrics.
  • Manage payroll, benefits, and related HR programs, ensuring accurate, timely processing, compliance with federal and state laws; monitor, recommend, and implement updates as needed.
  • Process benefits and other HR related invoices with accounting.
  • Lead full-cycle recruiting, including posting positions, screening candidates, coordinating interviews, and supporting selection.
  • Advise supervisors and managers on personnel policies, performance management, documentation, discipline, and corrective actions.
  • Manage employee relations, including investigations and resolution of concerns, ensuring fair and compliant outcomes.
  • Direct job classifications, and compensation practice in compliance with FLSA and best practices.
  • Analyze salary and benefit data, benchmark compensation and benefits against peer schools and the local market in collaboration with CFO.
  • Conduct onboarding, new employee orientations, performance evaluations, offboarding, and including exit interviews and trend analysis with recommendations.
  • Prepare and administer faculty contracts.
  • Handle Workers’ Compensation and Unemployment Insurance programs, including claims administration, reporting, and coordination with insurers and the State of Minnesota.
  • Ensure compliance with the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis’ E3 (“Essential 3”) requirements.
  • Maintain and update internal HR procedures and the employee handbook to align with best practices.
  • Serve on the Retirement Plan Subcommittee.
  • Support organizational change initiatives to ensure legal compliance, non-discriminatory practices, and effective communication.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the School’s mission and operations.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Direct supervision of a full-time Payroll Administrator
  • Conduct annual performance assessment for direct report

Qualifications

QUALIFICATION, EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business, Public Administration, or related field required; Advanced Degree or HR certification preferred.
  • Minimum five years of demonstrated experience managing the Human Resources function in a business, nonprofit, or educational environment.
  • Minimum three years in a supervisory or leadership role preferred.
  • Experience designing and managing benefits programs and working with service providers.
  • Three to five years of experience processing payroll in a business, nonprofit, or educational environment.
  • Experience creating and managing employee assessment and compensation programs.
  • Knowledge of HR principles and practices necessary to plan, analyze, and develop policies and procedures affecting employees.
  • Knowledge of Minnesota and Federal labor laws (especially school employment law), benefits administration, payroll, recruiting practices, and other HR functions.
