Deputy Director of the Office of Ministerial Standards and Safe Environment

Position Summary:

The person in this position will assist the Director of Ministerial Standards and Safe Environment with the implementation and maintenance of the Archdiocese's compliance with the Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People.

Essential Functions of the Position:

• Assists in working and supervising investigations of complaints and allegations of clergy misconduct,
• Maintains investigative case management system;
• Co-chairs and facilitates the Security Manager Information Group and the distribution of safety and security-related information with Archdiocesan parishes and schools;
• Coordinates with law enforcement, prosecutors and government social service agencies to resolve allegations of criminal activity;
• Supports the activities of the Ministerial Review Board (MRB);
• Oversees the process of following up on all action items identified in related to file and clergy assignment reviews;
• Approves payroll and time off requests of office staff;
• Assists in security planning and operations of special events;
• Collaborates with local and federal law enforcement in identifying potential threats;
• Coordinates supervision of the Coordinator for Restorative Practices and Survivor Support;
• Coordinates supervision of investigative staff;
• Reviews and assists with development, revision and implementation of Archdiocesan Safe Environment policies;
• Manages and oversees the reporting processes for the USCCB audits and other safe environment audits;
• Assists in scheduling and in support and supervision of Executive Assistant;
• Coordinates special events, conferences and other activities with external partners;
• Requires board membership and leading and attending meetings and multiple committees to include preparation and approval of agendas and minutes;
• Assists Archdiocesan parishes and schools with safety and security-related concerns including reports of criminal activity and mandated reporter incidents;
• Other duties assigned by the Director.

Job Requirements (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):

• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written;
• Knowledge and understanding of the Roman Catholic Church, its structure, and the ministries within the Offices of the Catholic Center;
• Ability to exercise discretion, good judgment, and initiative;
• Ability to prioritize, multitask, and meet deadlines with minimal supervision;
• Diplomatic, tactful, and discreet, especially when dealing with confidential matters;
• Must have knowledge of Minnesota statutes, including those related to sexual abuse and exploitation;
• Ability to work in collaboration with others;
• Must have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively.

 Job Qualifications: (Education and Experience):

• Bachelor’s degree required and Master’s Degree preferred in a position related to field (social work, psychology, criminal justice, counseling);
• Managerial experience in Law enforcement, investigatory, or similar disciplinary background required, with a strong sense of justice;
• Three or more years of experience with ecclesiastic institutions preferred;
• Must complete and pass background investigation and complete Essential 3 safe environment credentialing.
• Must have a valid driver’s license.

 Physical Requirements:

• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer;
• Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds at times.
