Director of Liturgy and Music

Primary Purpose: The Director of Liturgy and Music assists with the Mission of the parish and is responsible for ensuring dynamic, quality liturgical celebrations and music that enhances the “full, conscious, active participation of the faithful” at the Church of the Holy Name. This includes responsibility for two weekly Sunday Masses, Masses for Holy Days of Obligation, Ash Wednesday, Triduum, funerals and weddings.

Supervisory Responsibility: Liturgical ministers, environment volunteers, sacristans, musicians, cantors and choir.

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

1. Be a practicing Catholic. 

2. Knowledge of Catholic liturgy, including liturgical documents, liturgical ministries and music resources.

3. Ability to direct choirs and congregational singing.

4. Knowledge of Roman Missal, Lectionary and the workings of the Roman Catholic Liturgy.

5. Strong personal code of ethics, including maintaining confidentiality and avoiding conflict of interest.

6. Must be a self-starter, motivated and energetic person, who is able to take initiative in fulfilling task in a professional manner and the ability to problem-solve.

7. Must have a collaborative and diplomatic approach to ministry, i.e. maintains a supportive and respectful relationship with other staff members and lay leaders

8. Ability to train, supervise, mentor and evaluate volunteers in all liturgical ministries and music ministry.

9. Solid organizational, planning and communication skills and skills with Microsoft Office suite, etc.

10. Ability to work independently with little direct supervision and frequent interruptions.

11. Commitment to support and enhance the Gospel message through song, prayer and liturgical ministries and environment

12. Perform other work-related tasks as directed by the pastor and participate in staff meetings/tasks and parish events.
