Description
Saint Agnes School seeks a talented and dedicated Band Director to join our faculty. The ideal candidate is a skilled musician and educator who values both excellence and joy in performance. He or she seeks to develop in students discipline, attentiveness, and an appreciation for a deeper understanding of music within a liberal arts education.
Position Overview
The Band Director is responsible for leading instrumental ensembles across multiple grade levels, providing instruction in performance, music theory, and history, and building a cohesive, high-quality program. The role includes preparing students for performances that reflect both technical proficiency and musical expression.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct and develop instrumental ensembles for students in grades 5-12
- Provide structured, engaging instruction in instrumental music
- Form students in musical literacy, including music theory, history, and performance
- Select high-quality repertoire that supports student growth across levels
- Prepare and lead performances that demonstrate excellence and artistry
- Collaborate with faculty to support the school’s academic and fine arts programs
- Communicate effectively with parents and maintain strong relationships within the school community
Qualifications
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Music Education, Instrumental Performance, or a related field required
- Master’s degree preferred
- Practicing Catholic preferred
- Experience directing band programs across multiple age levels preferred
- Strong knowledge of music history and theory
- Ability to connect with students and develop their musical skills across a range of abilities
- Demonstrated ability to select and program high-quality instrumental music, including contemporary compositions appropriate for students
