SAINT ROSE OF LIMA MISSION STATEMENT: The Mission of Saint Rose of Lima Catholic School is to provide quality academic education, religious education and faith formation for our students. It is our goal to prepare our children as lifelong learners who will grow spiritually and intellectually as responsible Christians and citizens of our global community.
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION: To provide instructional classes in all assigned subjects/grade levels in accordance with the school/parish mission statement, philosophy, MNSAA standards, state standards, handbooks, curriculums, and directions established by the principal and pastor.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Employment in and by the Catholic Church is substantially different from secular employment. Church employees must conduct themselves in a manner which is consistent with and supportive of the mission and purpose of the Church. Their public behavior must not violate the faith, morals or laws of the Church or the Archdiocese, such that it can embarrass the church or give rise to scandal.
REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES: The responsibilities listed below are representative of the position and are not all-inclusive. They are considered essential for the successful completion of this position.
- Relationship with Pastor * Recognizes and respects the ultimate authority of the pastor who delegates and encourages independent decision-making and action when appropriate.
- Curriculum, Instruction and faith formation
- Participate in faith formation activities with students and colleagues including but not limited to liturgies, prayer services, daily prayer, adoration and staff/student retreats.
- Be responsible for the instruction of assigned classes in the locations and during the times designated.
- Prepare for assigned classes (grade level) and have lesson plans available that meet MNSAA accreditation and State standards.
- Instruct students utilizing the designated curriculums for all subject areas assigned.
- Strive to implement, through instruction and action, the philosophical goals and objectives developed for Saint Rose of Lima Catholic School.
- Use a variety of educational strategies and techniques to meet the needs of all learners in the classroom.
- Assess the accomplishments of students and provide progress reports to parents on a regular basis.
- Supervision & Classroom Management
- Ensure certain students are properly supervised during school, student arrival and departure, and school sponsored functions as assigned or needed. Supervise students in the following areas (as assigned): Classrooms, Hallways, Church, Playground, Lunchroom, Bus Areas, Crossing Areas, Car Areas, Field Trips.
- Maintain accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, school policy and/or administrative requirements though our student information system (Sycamore) and other means.
- Organize, prepare and maintain student and classroom files and information.
- Gather information in an organized manner, maintain Sycamore system for student assignments and grading, grade and return student assignments in a timely manner, and keep student CUM cards updated as needed.
- Establish and maintain a classroom environment which is conducive to learning and appropriate to the developmental age and interests of the students.
- Help create a productive environment where there is harmony, good morale, and cooperative teamwork. Monitor self-productivity and take corrective action as appropriate.
- Develop rules of classroom behavior and procedures that maintain order in a fair and just manner consistent with school policy.
- Communication
- Communicate regularly with parents to discuss student progress and behavior.
- Clearly convey the lessons and objectives of the coursework at the start of the academic year, and communicate availability for questions and concerns.
- Be available to students and parents outside of the instructional day for education related purposes such as student concerns, parent/teacher conferences (fall and spring), staff team conferences, or providing academic assistance.
- Actively promote and maintain open lines of communication with the parents, students, teachers, staff and administration of Saint Rose of Lima Catholic School.
- Maintain and update “teacher page” on the school’s website for your class.
- Attend when possible school sponsored events, not all events are required but encouraged to attend. 8th grade graduation and CSW Mass/open house are mandatory to attend. Other events may be required as needed.
- Professional Development, Duties and other
- Maintain and improve professional competency through participation in professional development opportunities, including opportunities to strengthen your personal faith and teaching abilities. Share (with colleagues) information from professional development opportunities when necessary
- Maintain professional licensure and knowledge base by acquiring 125 clock hours of professional development in a five-year period.
- Attend faculty meetings, scheduled parent/teacher organization meetings and all meetings deemed necessary by the Principal and Pastor.
- Attend in-service training and teacher workshops as required.
- Serve on faculty committees responsible for tasks such as curriculum development/review, event planning, student evaluation(s), MNSAA accreditation and other needs as they arise.
- Abide by the policies and guidelines of Saint Rose of Lima Catholic School as stated in the Personnel Handbook.
- Actively carry out duties assigned by the Principal and Pastor.
- Practice confidentiality in regard to academic, social and discipline issues pertaining to students and staff.
- Be a positive advocate of Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church & School.
- Understand the Essential 3 requirements in order to ensure the policies are followed in regard to activities and programs under your direction.
- To be present where needed, ready to work for all scheduled hours and classes and as needed to meet responsibilities. Includes recognizing when situations require more effort, putting in more time when needed, satisfying responsibilities in a timely manner, providing an example of punctuality and attendance and generally ensuring that all instruction of children is taken care of in a professional and responsible manner.
Qualifications
- BA/BS degree
- Current State of Minnesota Teaching License – Have and maintain appropriate credentials
- Must complete Essential Three training required by the archdiocese upon hire
- Competence in age appropriate instructional methods and knowledge of subject matter being taught.
- Must have proficiency in technology skills as the position demands
- Must be a Catholic in good standing
