Job Description



Representative Responsibilities:
 To be present where needed and ready to work to meet responsibilities, and on time for all scheduled hours. Includes recognizing when situations require more effort, to put in more time if needed, satisfying responsibilities in a timely manner, providing an example of punctuality and attendance, and generally ensuing all is well and taken care of.
 Oversees and manages all maintenance, upkeep, and repair projects of the all parish campuses and structures, including and grounds management. Keep current compliant licensure required for all mechanical equipment.
 To create a productive environment where there is harmony, good morale and teamwork. To monitor self-productivity and take corrective action as appropriate.
 To maintain and improve work knowledge and skills including the understanding of requirements and work procedures and the purpose of work completed.
 To maintain all communication requirements including interpersonal skills with the employees and parishioners. Includes keeping superiors and the appropriate people informed.
 To maintain confidentiality of all work data.
 Oversee all physical aspects of all campuses to provide a compliant, safe, secure, clean, orderly, and visually appealing environment.
 Oversee all maintenance and upkeep, and repair projects of the all campuses, including boilers and all mechanical equipment. Keep current with licensure required for all mechanical equipment.
 Responsible for supervising contractors hired for the operations, maintenance, repair and cleaning of HVAC equipment including boilers, vacuum pumps, fan motors, condensate pumps, and equipment relating to the heating and cooling of parish buildings.
 Coordinate all required inspections (e.g, fire inspector, boiler inspector, Catholic Mutual, etc.)

HVAC Equipment
Responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of:
 Boilers, vacuum pumps, fan motors, condensate pumps, steam traps, and all equipment.
 All air conditioning systems and units in all buildings including cleaning all coils and filters.

General Repairs
 Responsible for all HVAC, plumbing and electrical repairs.
 All repairs that are beyond the expertise of maintenance personnel that require outside contractor must have prior approval from Director of Operations.
 Responsible for all repairs of all general FF&E, and grounds equipment.

Use and Upkeep of all Buildings
 Responsible for management of general locking and security.
 Responsible for management of set up and take down of all funerals, meetings and events.
 Establish and manage a work order process for all three campuses so repairs are completed in a timely manner.
 Establish and manage annual building capital asset and grounds inspection report and make recommendations to Director of Operations.

 Establish and manage required cleaning routines for all areas to include sweeping and use of the floor scrubbing machines on the floors, thorough cleaning of all the bathrooms, hallways, entrances sacristy and Sanctuary.
 Establish and manage all environmental compliance requirements including annual review and update of the MacNeil Environmental Report.
 Ensure stock of all maintenance, operations and repairs, / janitorial, grounds, and all other supplies, for ensure proper performance of all facilities.
 In working with the Director of Operations establish and maintain proper cleaning and maintenance for all buildings and grounds to insure proper public presentation and compliance of all sites including grounds consistent with Parish standards.

 Ensure snow removal of all entrances and sidewalks, sand and salt should be applied as needed.
 Ensure cleaning and sweeping of outside entrances as needed.
 Ensure lawn is cut and fertilizers applied. Ensure grass clipping are swept up from sidewalk.
 Ensure debris is picked up on the Holy Cross grounds and parking lots.
 Ensure the watering of the grass, shrubs, flowers and weed control.

 Provide the Director of Operations regular update on operations, needs and budget.
 Provide the Director of Operations information on annual capital needs.
 Make sure all maintenance and storage areas are neat and organized.
 Ensure all boiler rooms, mechanical and maintenance areas are compliant, organized and free of clutter.
 Maintain and improve knowledge of boiler operations, facilities maintenance and insurance requirements.
 Work with Director of Operations and volunteers on the decorating setup.

Job Qualifications

High School Graduate or equivalent, post-secondary mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and other relevant trade certifications a plus,
Minimum of five plus years of facilities maintenance and cleaning experience required.
Minimum 2nd class C boilers license preferred, Chief boiler license, a plus.
Supervisor and HVAC experience required.
Must have a valid driver’s license and car for use during scheduled hours.
Understanding of Catholic Faith, rituals, calendar, practices, preferred.
Possess knowledge of Catholic faith and exhibit respect for the Holy Cross Parish.
Successfully complete the two-day course by MacNeil Environmental course.
Successfully complete the required background checks and VIRTUS training.
Successfully complete the pre-employment physical.

Physical Demands:
Climb many flights of steps and maneuver through crawlspaces to access remote parts of the Holy Cross including walking the rooftop for inspections.
Lift and move heavy objects using proper techniques, up to 50 lbs.
Must be flexible with work schedule and work for longer periods of time when position demands.
Clean the boilers at the end of heating season and start up and shut down boilers.
Work off a ladder and climb ladders to the attic.
Operate normal building, grounds and maintenance equipment.
Operate the boiler.
Respond to emergency situations on a 24-hour basis.

Institution Description

Holy Cross is a Roman Catholic parish serving the neighborhoods of Northeast Minneapolis. As a multi-campus parish encompassing three houses of worship (Holy Cross, St. Clement, St. Hedwig) we have a presence in different quarters of this simultaneously historic and up-and-coming corridor of Minneapolis.

Community Description

Our parish is made up of roughly 1200 households with very mixed demographics. This is an exciting season of new growth and opportunity in Northeast Minneapolis as we serve both longtime parishioners and newcomers and support their growth in faith, hope and charity.
